Know nothing about Computers

Just as the computer software needs to be maintained for efficient functioning, similarly computer hardware too requires adequate amount of care to keep working properly.

Taking care of the monitors and the CPU is relatively easier, than tackling computer keyboard problems. It is so because there are lots of keys with individual connection points in the keyboard that makes it a little tougher to clean.

The most common keyboard problem of computers is “keyboard not found” message at the start-up. This means the computer cannot detect the keyboard. The reasons for this problem can be

1.Keyboard is not plugged-in properly To resolve this switch-off the PC, Plug the keyboard properly and restart the computer.

2.Pins of the keyboard connector have damaged. This often occurs when you try to plug the keyboard and force without properly matching positions of keyboard pins with the holes in the computer. If the pins are not broken you can use a tiny screwdriver or similar equipment and carefully straighten affected pins. Shut down the PC and plug-in the keyboard again carefully and restart.

If the computer keyboard is not taken proper care of, then it may start malfunctioning and may even become dysfunctional after some point of time. The best way to keep the computer keyboards always in top condition and restricting any malfunctioning is to keep them clean and dust-free. If the computer keyboards are regularly dusted and no dirt is allowed to settle in the delicate keys, then your keyboard is virtually safe from most of the problems. To do the dusting, you can use the brushes which have soft bristles.

The paper clips and staples often jam the keys of the keyboard and may fall in the circuitry causing much harm. If any of them have fallen over your computer keyboard then to take them out, you should unplug the keyboard after shutting down the computer and should pull the fallen items out with pliers (needle-nosed) or the tweezers (non-magnetic). If some other particle like the bread crumbs or dust falls over the keyboard, then invert the keyboard and pat it gently on the back. The dust and the bread crumbs will fall out.

If you happen to spill some liquid over the keyboard like the milk, water, cold drinks, tea or coffee, then it is a very serious problem as the liquid can cause considerable harm to your keyboard. In such a case, you must always shut the computer down immediately and drain the liquid out of the keyboard by tilting it. After draining the excess liquid, rinse the part of the keyboard where the liquid was spilled.

At times the keyboard functions well but there is a problem in some specific keys. To combat that problem, you can use the contact cleaner (electronics- grade) on the affected key switches.

You may never know when you may accidentally drop the keyboard off the table or yank/tug on its cord, and the connectors and cables may get loosened. To escape having error messages while booting because of the loosened connectors and cables, always check them thoroughly before starting the computer.

If you want to keep simple computer keyboard problems away or keep keyboard as good as new, you can also get it laminated by a thin plastic sheet or you may keep it covered when not in use.
