Increase Hard Disk Speed with sysedit Utility

Here is a cool computer maintenance tip on how to use sysedit utility to increase your PC performance.

The speed of your hard disk can have a great impact on the overall computer speed. Most of you may think that increasing the size of the hard disk is the only solution. But this is not the case.

Your Computer is combining its memory (RAM) with the hard drive to maximize the access speed of programs. Optimizing this can dramatically improve the overall speed of your computer. The optimization can be done by using a windows utility called SYSEDIT. This component is available in most of the Windows operating systems such as Windows XP and Windows 2003.

The SYSEDIT.EXE is an advanced utility that allow the user to modify system configuration parameters. Invalid entries can cause operating errors on your PC. Therefore please follow the steps carefully.

Here is how to use SYSEDIT and optimize the hard disk access speed.

Click the Start button and go to Run, type SYSEDIT.EXE and press OK button

System Configuration Editor will open with four different windows. We need only the "System.ini" file. Close the other three windows (Win.ini, Config.sys, and Autoexec.bat).

Go through the details of this file, you will find a line [386enh].

Place the cursor at the end of this line, press enter to make one blank line below line [386enh].

Go to the blank line and type the below value.

Irq14=4096

(Type as it is as this line is case Sensitive.)

After typing the value the file will look like below.

Now go to "File" menu and click SAVE to save the updates.

Close the " System Configuration Editor ", shut-down your PC and re-start.
